New England Equine Medical & Surgical Center is a privately held professional limited liability company (PLLC) offering the highest quality medical and surgical care to the equine population of New England and beyond. Our present client base is 14,000+, with approximately 200 referring equine veterinarians throughout the region.

Our founder and CEO, D. Michael Davis, DVM, MS is an accomplished equine surgeon and has been practicing veterinary medicine in New Hampshire since 1992. He graduated from Colorado State University as a DVM and completed simultaneous surgical residency program in Equine Surgery and Masters degree in Veterinary Anatomy at Louisiana State University in 1991. Dr. Davis taught and was an equine surgeon at the University of Montreal and then joined Rochester Equine Clinic in 1992 as staff surgeon and clinician. Dr. Davis became the major case and income generating clinician at REC in 1997 and subsequently became a 1/3 interest partner in REC, P.A. in 2000. He had been the primary force in the growth and success of that practice.  It has been Dr. Davis' continued goal to provide the practice a facility and home where quality of service and growth both continue to rise. This goal was only attainable through the purchase and development of an entirely new medical and surgical center and the implementation of key personnel changes.

Dr. Davis is pleased to have Dr. Jacqueline Bartol joining him as partner and co-owner of New England Equine Medical & Surgical Center, PLLC. Dr. Bartol completed both her graduate (DVM) and residency training at Cornell University and is a board-certified internal medicine clinician (Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine). She joined Rochester Equine Clinic in 2000 and had been an outstanding contributor to that expanding practice.

Dr. Deme Erickson a previous partner in the REC, has also joined Drs. Davis and Bartol at the new facility in Dover, establishing her own expanding ambulatory practice, TNT Equine, PLLC.  Dr. Erickson has been in ambulatory practice since 1991. Her expertise in equine reproduction and dentistry as part of TNT Equine complements the services offered by New England Equine Medical & Surgical Center. Dr. Erickson’s ambulatory practice includes Drs. Staci Kehir and Erica Koch.

Dr. Andris J. Kaneps is the third senior clinician at NEEMSC. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (DVM) and underwent specialty training at Colorado State University (internship) and the Ohio State University (Equine Surgery Residency). He is a board-certified surgeon (Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons) and has graduate degrees from Ohio State (Masters) and the University of California-Davis (PhD). Dr. Kaneps has been a faculty member and surgeon at Org eon State University, University of California-Davis and the Ohio State University. He was also in private sporthorse practice in Minnesota, California and Massachusetts.

Dr. Nicholas Cassotis graduated Michigan State University with his DVM. He then completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at North Carolina State University. Dr. Cassotis returned to MSU and completed his residency in Comparative Ophthalmology. Dr. Cassotis is board-certified in veterinary ophthalmology (Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology). His interest in ophthalmology was spurred by his desire to pursue a specialty that allowed work with both horses and small animals. Since returning to his home state of New Hampshire, he has developed the Ophthalmology Department with Dover Veterinary Hospital and runs a full medical and surgical service. Regular, exclusive consultations with New England Equine Medical & Surgical Center are available for equine clientele and patients.

New England Equine is pleased to welcome back Dr. Omar Maher to the clinic as a full-time hospital clinician and board certified surgeon. Omar is well known to us and to many clients as he spent 2 years (one as an intern and one as a junior hospital clinician) with us while we were still at Rochester Equine Clinic. He came to Dover briefly in the move to NEEMSC, but went on to the University of California at Davis in 2005 for a residency program in Equine Surgery and Lameness, and became a board certified surgeon and Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Maher's areas of expertise include high level sport horse lameness and maintenance, minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy and laparoscopy), airway laser surgery, gastro-intestinal surgery and advanced imaging such as MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and CT (Computed Tomography). He will be instrumental in the development of our advanced imaging program. Dr Maher has lectured and published nationwide and internationally on various topics including lameness in sport horses, back pain in horses, new therapeutics for equine orthopedics (stem cells, PRP, IRAP, Tildren…), pre-purchase examination for elite sport horses, and the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue lesions of the foot using contrast enhanced computed tomography. He answered owner’s questions on advanced diagnosis and treatment of lameness in June 2006 as the Expert of the Month for the American Association of Equine Practitioners and will provide that service again in July 2009.
